What is a “Funny Mulatto”? It’s a comedy cocktail that ain’t quite white, ain’t quite black – ain’t quite a latte – and nothing tastes quite like it. We’re bringing it to Sal’s Comedy Hole on September 12, when Hersh Rephun and AJ Starr topline a show featuring Eric Alegria, Ryan Clark, Jamal Irving, and emcee Keith Michael Ashton. Both AJ and Hersh recently headlined at The Ice House’s Stage 2, and this crew has opened for big-name acts, toured like champions and made people laugh even when they didn’t wanna.
If you’re into the whole literal thing, this libation is derived from “Mulatto,” a term used to refer to a person of mixed African and European ancestry, or more broadly, a person of any “mixed” ancestry.* Our show is just that, so there ya go. Of course, we’re illiteral, so we’re serving this up figurative.

Tonight, we stand before YOU with our bare faces hanging out, converting adversity into comedy and celebrating the stage – the last bastion of free speech. There’s no place better to do this than the Hole, a throwback to the outlaw comedy of the 50s, 60s and 70s.
